Some patients taking Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) may be considering switching to Wegovy® 7.2mg now that a higher-dose semaglutide option is available.
Wegovy® and Mounjaro® are different weight loss medicines with different active ingredients. Wegovy® contains semaglutide, while Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide. Although both treatments work on appetite regulation, they are not directly interchangeable and there is currently no exact clinically proven dose conversion between them.
A decision to switch should be based on your individual circumstances, including:

✓ How long you have been on treatment
✓ Your weight loss progress so far
✓ Any side effects you are experiencing
✓ Your medical history and treatment goals
The dose comparison table below can be used as a general guide to show what Wegovy® dose may theoretically be considered similar to different Mounjaro® doses. However, this is not an official dose equivalency chart. Current recommendations are based on limited available evidence, smaller studies and real-world clinical experience rather than direct trials comparing exact dose switching.
For patients already established and tolerating the maximum dose of Mounjaro®, our usual clinical approach would be to consider switching across to Wegovy® 2.4mg first, where appropriate, rather than moving directly to Wegovy® 7.2mg. This allows our prescribers to assess your response and tolerability to semaglutide before considering a gradual increase towards Wegovy® 7.2mg if clinically suitable. When switching between Mounjaro and Wegovy you must leave a gap of at least 1 week.
