Anaphylaxis (sometimes referred to as angioedema when swelling is prominent) is a rare but severe allergic reaction that can be life‑threatening if not treated immediately. Although uncommon with GLP‑1 medications such as Mounjaro and Wegovy, it’s important to recognise the signs and act quickly.
🔍 Recognising the Signs
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Severe dizziness or feeling faint
🚨 What to Do If You Suspect Anaphylaxis
- Seek emergency care immediately: Call 999 or go straight to A&E.
- Stop using your medication: Discontinue Mounjaro or Wegovy and inform the medical team.
- Bring your medication packaging: Show healthcare providers what you have been taking.
✅ Prevention & Monitoring
- Stay alert: Watch for any new or worsening symptoms, especially after starting or increasing your dose.
- Discuss allergy history: If you have a history of severe allergies, speak with your NHS GP or the Lotus clinical team before starting treatment.
- Report concerns early: Contact our clinical team if you experience any unusual allergic symptoms.
